Job Profile:

Shanghai New York University (NYU Shanghai) seeks to appoint a Wellness Counselor. The Wellness Counselor will provide clinical assessment, short-term psychotherapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention and case management to the NYU Shanghai student community in accordance with established standards and professional ethics.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities include:

Provides outstanding clinical services, case management and referrals; collaborates with other clinical providers and consults with the NYUSH and NYU New York counseling services team on mental health issues
Collaborates with student affairs professionals at NYUSH who are responsible for other aspects of student health
Liaise with faculty and administrators to best serve the mental health needs of NYUSH students
Builds close working relationships with external mental health providers (including psychiatrists) and other medical professionals from whom NYUSH students seek care
Maintains case records, notes, and closing summaries on all clients treated. Ensures standards of care at NYUSH are aligned with those at NYU New York
Conducts clinical assessment interviews to evaluate the seriousness of problems and concerns including, but not limited to, alcohol and other drug use and assessment of eating disorders
Recommends treatment plans and provides students with individual psychotherapy or group therapy as appropriate
Under the clinical supervision of the NYU Assistant Director of Global Clinical Services, make recommendations for hospitalization and leaves of absences and, at the request of the Dean of Students, participates in the evaluation of students’ readiness to return from leaves of absence
Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment and support teams and collaborates with student health professionals at the Student Health Center and Wellness Exchange at NYU in New York
Serves in an on-call capacity, including overnight and weekends, to respond to student and campus emergencies and serve as a key resource and for colleagues involved in responding to psychological emergencies and other urgent situations
Facilitate health promotion programs/workshops that focus on mental health issues


Qualifications:

Required Education

Ph.D. or Psy.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; or LCSW. Licensed in the United States or other country with similar licensing standards.
Required Experience

3+ years' clinical experience, which may include internships, externships, or fellowships
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact with a wide range of individuals
English language proficiency; ability to speak Chinese Mandarin a plus
Proficiency with electronic medical records
Experience working with college-age population preferred
Experience with alcohol and other drug issues, and/or eating disorders preferred
