International residents in Wenjiang District in western Chengdu have had fun on a platform for communication and language learning, where they can improve the fluency in the Chinese language, and learn more about the language and various aspects of the Chinese culture, such as traditional landscape designs, handwriting, Wushu (ancient Chinese martial arts), paper cutting and so on.
The platform, called Meet at Chinese Corner, Build a Warm Family, the first of its kind in the district, was initiated on March 16, 2024 and has so far staged 13 programs for experience and exchange, attracting participation of 226 expats from 13 countries and regions living, working or studying in the district.
The platform is jointly sponsored by the foreign affairs office of Wenjiang District and the Collegetown Community, with the help of local community service centers for foreigners, aimed at providing a venue for language learning and exchange for expats living, working or studying in the district. It presents practice of the project of HomeinChengdu and creates an agreeable environment for expat residents in the district with the concept of Home in Wenjiang.
The Collegetown Community now boasts a team of volunteers consisting exclusively of expats living in the district, who play an active role in various volunteering services. International residents in the district can register through the platform to join in the team and get involvement in the public welfare services to help build a community and a city for common interests, to promote the harmonious society for locals and expats and give full practice of building a community of common destiny for all mankind.
