As if our lives didn’t already revolve around WeChat enough, today they’ve just made it even easier for foreigners to use. WeChat launched a feature that now translates all the mini-programs with the push of a button.
This new Mini Program Translation function shows up as a little pop-up translation icon on the top right corner of your phone when you open any mini program on WeChat (if the icon disappears, simply click on the three dots in the corner and then select "translation"). When you select it, it’ll automatically do a full translation of the entire page. Now, WeChat’s had some odd translations for things in the past and you’re bound to get that with this new feature, but it’s still good enough that you’ll get a pretty good gist of what you’re reading even if you don’t speak a word of Chinese.

Think of mini programs like Meituan Waimai, that lets you browse through an extensive list of restaurants, supermarkets, liquor stores, and pharmacies all over the country. This new WeChat feature just widened your digital horizons!
Imagine a traveler exploring a new destination where Chinese is predominantly spoken. With WeChat's new translation feature, they can effortlessly use local mini-programs to find the best tourist attractions, restaurants, and transportation options. It not only saves time but also reduces stress and confusion.
For businesses, this feature now expands their reach to the international community. Mini programs that were previously accessible only to Chinese speakers can now be utilized by people from different corners of the world. This leads to increased opportunities for collaboration and growth.
This function currently supports 18 languages. To give it a try, first, make sure you’ve got your default translation language setting set up. Step One: Go to “Settings”
Step Two: Select “General”
Step Three: Select “Translate”
Step Four: Select the language you want it to be translated into.
And there you have it! Now your life in China just got a whole lot easier!
