China Adds Two Countries to 240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Policy

The National Immigration Administration announced on August 20 that, starting August 20, 2026, citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam will be eligible for China’s 240-hour visa-free transit policy and 30-day visa-free entry policy for Hainan Province. With this addition, the number of countries eligible for the 240-hour visa-free transit policy has been brought to 57, and the number of countries covered by the 30-day visa-free entry policy for Hainan Province has increased to 61.
Citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam holding ordinary passports and interline passenger tickets with confirmed dates and itineraries bound for a third country or region may enter China visa-free through any of the 65 open ports across the country, including Beijing and Shanghai, and stay visa-free for up to 240 hours within the permitted areas. Citizens of the two countries who hold ordinary passports may enter Hainan Province through its open ports and stay visa-free for up to 30 days within the province’s administrative area. During the visa-free stay under either policy, travelers are permitted to engage in short-term activities, such as tourism, business and trade, exchange visits, and family visits. Employment, study, journalistic activities, and others that require prior approval still need appropriate visas before traveling to China.

According to the National Immigration Administration, extending the two visa-free policies to citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Vietnam is a pragmatic step to steadily advance high-standard opening up and promote the development of a community with a shared future with neighboring countries. These measures will further enhance mutual trust and cooperation and improve the convenience and efficiency of travel for tourism, business and trade, exchange visits, and investment.

The 65 open ports covered by the policy include the ports of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Foreign nationals can conveniently enjoy the 240-hour visa-free transit policy through Chengdu’s two aviation ports.
