New national 5A-class scenic spot in Chengdu

The Tiantaishan (Tiantai Mountains) Scenic Spot was recently named by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as one of the new batch of 19 national 5A-class scenic spots, according to an announcement of the ministry published on its official website.

The scenic spot, located in Qionglai City in western Chengdu, about 110 kilometers from urban Chengdu, covers an area of 29.1 square kilometers. With a forest coverage rate as high as nearly 95% and great diversified flora and fauna species, the area is one of the main habitats of giant panda in Sichuan (a UNESCO world heritage site), a national-level sightseeing site, a national-level forest park and one of the eight firebug sightseeing destinations in the world. The highest point of the scenic spot is the Yuxiao Peak, which stands 1812 meters above the sea level.

Notes:

To avoid any possible dangers caused by snow and ice on the roads or even deposit ice in some parts of the scenic spot, self-drive visitors to the area are advised to leave their vehicles at designated parking lots and take sightseeing buses for travel in the scenic spot.
