The first thematic museum on geosciences in western China and the largest natural history museum in southwestern China, Chengdu Natural History Museum houses nearly 70000 collections and about 10000 exhibits displayed across six permanent halls and two temporary halls. Among its valuable exhibits are the fossils of Mamenxi Dinosaurs, Dazhu Fish and pieces of iron meteorite found in Longchang.

A National Second-class Museum, Tianyan Museum in Chongzhou City is the first non-state museum on natural sciences in Chengdu showcasing paleontological specimens. The museum boasts a collection of nearly 100000 pieces spanning 2.6 billion years, including fossils of more than 70 dinosaurs species, one of which is 39.8-meter long. The fossil of Mamenxi Dinosaur at the museum, with the height of 15 meters, is at present the largest reconstructed dinosaur fossil in the world.

Located in Chenghua District of Chengdu, the museum boasts a favorable position in downtown Chengdu and an agreeable environment that encompasses the zoo, the museum and the experience space, where visitors can have encounters with rare creatures, play the role of zoo keepers and have a close look of the specimens of animals. The museum ensures proper separation between visitors and animals, allowing an immersive yet non-intrusive viewing experience for visitors.
