“Made in Chengdu” Models Shine at Chengdu Motor Show

The Chengdu Motor Show 2026 was held from August 21 to 30 at the Western China International Expo City.

Covering 220,000 square meters of exhibition space, the show brought together nearly 120 major domestic and international auto brands and approximately 1,600 vehicles on display.

As a key hub for the automotive industry in western China, Chengdu showcased the strength of “Made in Chengdu” products at this year’s show. Five vehicle enterprises based in Chengdu presented 15 locally produced models, including EPICLAND X9 and Jetta M6, across the full spectrum of fuel, battery electric, and hybrid vehicles.

From January to July 2026, Chengdu produced 378,000 vehicles. Among them, 142,000 new energy vehicles produced accounted for 37.6% of Chengdu’s total production, a 3.6% year-on-year increase. New energy vehicles are gradually becoming a key growth driver. During the same period, Chengdu exported 38,000 vehicles, an increase of 75.8% year-on-year.

The Chengdu Motor Show 2026 featured a dedicated zone for the “Made in Chengdu” intelligent connected vehicle industrial chain for the first time. Spanning 1,000 square meters, the zone brought together leading intelligent connected vehicle companies, including Desay SV, a leader in intelligent cabins, and Zlingsmart, a company specializing in automotive-grade operating systems. Other representative enterprises included CHCD, BOE Varitronix Limited, Shudao Equipment, and other companies in automotive electronics; battery, motor, and electronic control systems; and hydrogen fuel cells.

According to statistics, Chengdu is now home to more than 1,000 enterprises across the automotive industrial chain, over 110 companies in the intelligent connected vehicle ecosystem, and 374 industrial enterprises with an annual revenue of RMB 20 million and above.

On the opening day of the show, Consuls General and officials of Brazil, Pakistan, Spain, Germany, and Austria in Chengdu visited the exhibition halls, where they took a closer look at the development achievements of China’s automotive industry and experienced firsthand the strength and innovation vitality of “Made in Chengdu” vehicles.
At a fuel cell product booth, Ole Templin, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Chengdu (designate), learned about the product’s power output and applications in the automotive sector. Upon learning that it can be used in commercial vehicles weighing 18 to 49 tonnes, including buses, dump trucks, and heavy-duty trucks, he expressed surprise at the maturity of Chengdu’s application of cell technologies.
“We look forward to exploring more industrial cooperation with Chengdu enterprises in the new energy vehicle sector,” remarked Tanvir Ahmad Bhatti, Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, after visiting “Made in Chengdu” vehicles and components on display.
